Disgraceland — Probably the Greatest Podcast ever made.
I’m not religious, so the only true spiritual uplift I encounter is when listening to music. Naturally, this level of zealotry extends beyond the records themselves. A self professed evangelist for whatever-it-is-I’m-currently-into, I’m also inclined to seek out other crusaders, to dial into their frequency.
I thought about writing a review for my favourite podcast, Disgraceland, but I fail to see how it will adequately convey the rush I experience when listening to Jake Brennan’s phenomenal conjuration. Jake is absolutely what you’d call an evangelist, but he’s not simply making a case for artist X or Y; he builds a wondrous narrative around the dizzying highs and criminal lows of the circus that is rock ’n’ roll.
So instead of posting a review on iTunes, I elected instead to write a little rationale as to what makes Disgraceland the best Podcast ever made.
What makes a Podcast stand out?
I’m not a podcast diehard — the conflict exists where I’d typically prefer to listen to a record, and in the age of remote working, I get to listen to a lot of records. Having said that, podcasts make an excellent accompaniment for chores that don’t always support a vinyl soundtrack. Painting a fence, taking a shower — you get the idea.
