Great piece. Sadly, even Australia is not immune from the culture wars idiocy we see in the US. As long as people are in a situation where they need someone to blame and will vote for anyone who screams fire the loudest, seems we’re stuck on this path.

Wholeheartedly agree with your experience of people in America. Warm, friendly and accommodating. It’s easy to see the worst, especially if you’ve never experienced it first hand and are inclined towards a little critical thinking.
