I have managed a number of ppl from this demographic - some incredible and others as you’ve described here.

For context, i work in a performance marketing agency. The underperformers often present as entitled - but for two specific reasons. Don’t care to understand the clients they’re responsible for, don’t work towards establishing even a superficial relationship with these contacts, and make excuses for their poor performance.

I think of it as showing up and giving a fuck. Granted, not all businesses are fair and some are definitely exploitative, but when this conduct presents in a good and ethical business, the reaction is an excuse, it’s not warranted.

Ultimately, in a service business, client success is the result of good process, good practice, understanding the businesses served and being able to satisfy need - which is usually pretty simple because DM is a numbers supported industry. Sure, ppl use stats in a dishonest manner, but revenue, ad spend, ROAS - the basic stuff can’t be distorted and ignoring the tools available to everyone is on the individual, no external force.
