In The Absence of Trust, all that’s Left is Vigilance.
Where suspicion exists, conflict follows. And people in conflict cannot rally together towards a shared objective. If humanity values trust so significantly, when then do we experience this with so few?
Context:
I was chatting with a friend recently, and we were discussing the interdependency between CEO and 2IC roles.
Much has been written of the need for these roles to complement one another — in other words, the 2IC should focus on skills gaps or deficiencies the CEO possesses. The desired goal, an effective symbiosis.
The most critical thing that came out of this discussion was the revelation that trust was the ultimate criteria. That doesn’t suggest that in the absence of an appropriate constellation of competency that trust alone is adequate, but in the pantheon of virtues deemed effective in this particular alliance, trust was the most noteworthy of all.
