Already a decade old, Lorde’s debut is a masterclass in the art of writing timeless songs.

A decade is a long enough period to determine whether an album meets the timeless designation.

What makes an album timeless?

Starting with a basic definition of timeless: not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion and then applying that convention to a collection of songs customarily referred to as an album, our understanding of this concept need be no more complex than this.

What does a timeless album sound like?

It’s human, it’s authentic, convincing and relatable. Lorde, or Ella Yelich-O’Connor as she’d be referred to by her parents when in trouble, released her debut at an age before the world fully reveals itself. It’s steeped in a sense of wonder, of firsts, and the optimistic current of uncertainty when adventure is at every turn.

It’s an album that you can relate to. It’s visual, you can recall the same anticipation and delight that is narrated within the songs. You can feel that innocence.

Why Pure Heroine?
