How To Cut Down Your Social Media Usage.
Stop the presses! One Neat Trick that’s actually a neat trick!
Setting the stage:
The pandemic contributed to the average time that people were spending on social media. And for those still working remotely — i.e: not under the same scrutiny when in an office setting — scrolling social media channels is a novel part of the multi-task experience.
Instant dopamine, always in reach.
If you’re reading this, you likely agree that social media is a distraction. It doesn’t help us accomplish our goals, and if your role relies on outcomes rather than hours logged, it only serves to make our work days longer.
We know why we do it, but let’s get to the neat trick before this becomes one of those articles.
Process to reduce your social media usage:
- Grab an index card and a pen; three evenly spaced lines across, three down. You should be looking at a roughly sketched, 12 box grid.
- To the left of each box, write the date, followed by an = sign, leaving enough room to the right to record the times you open a social media app, as well as space for a grand total.
- Each time you find yourself scrolling, add a mark next to today’s date.
