The Great, Yet Maybe Little Known Sydney Sprague
Commencing with her exquisite ‘maybe i will see you at the end of the world’ album.
I often reflect on how I became fanatical about a particular artist, and while the actual tipping point can be difficult to define, the introduction at least tends to remain vivid.
I stumbled across Sydney Sprague via the Rude Records site, which is a label trading in eco-friendly vinyl-record pressings. I wrote about the partnership with Greenyl just recently, and find this an exciting innovation.
Led to this site via an email from Earache, who have a couple of their ethically minded acts doing records on this label too, Earache, even it its most adventurous wouldn’t be a predictable home to an artist like Sydney Sprague. To better understand what Greenyl/Rude Records were doing, I was keen to find a release from an artist that I’d need to then go and buy a record from to see what was up with this eco vinyl.
We all do this, right?
I’ve been meaning to proselytise about Sydney Sprague’s 2021 album for some time, and Buddy Gott’s most recent post What Great Little-Known Songs or Albums Should We Listen To? inspired me to make that time now.
